Challenging your Bills
........ stronger together ........
There are two main ways of challenging your bills. Arguing your case directly with the Council, HFI or Partners. Or you can take them on at the Leasehold Valuation Tribunal (LVT).
Since bills can be reduced it makes sense to challenge them. Reasons for getting a reduction in your bill could be that the initial estimates were unreasonable or you paid for something you didn't receive. You can win, and save money, as the links below will show. In some cases the saving can be as much as 50%.
But, you don't always win and going to the LVT can be expensive and time consuming. At the very least you need professional legal support, especially as the Council can use the full weight of its legal department against you.
The Association's job will be support you in negotiations with the Council and, failing that, to provide expertise and professional advice if you want to go to the LVT.
Examples.
As reported in the Islington Tibune this leaseholder won a £790 cut on his service charges for wrongly billed repairs and estate services.
